E-mail of the month: July 2007

Harbour fan Colin traveled back to
NZ from the UK to witness the first Shield defence in Harbour's history and was totally underwhelmed by the experience.

"as the literally thousand of loyal fans that watched the primary defence of our union's favourite possession should know (cos they announced it over the loudspeaker), i returned to NZ from London ..."

mate - this is it, this is our first real deal challenge. We're not here to fuck spiders, the swamp foxes are done and dusted, the kapiti pricks are long gone- Naki is here and i sure as fuck dont want to witness another result like the 96 tragedy at the bull ring.

Never have i been happier than witnessing our men being led into battle by my ultimate hero in spy (rum and coke dominator) kelly against the cantabs and coming out victors. What happened post game with my friends and i at the airport and further more pats garage and jonahs house will never be forgotten. In other words the highlight of our lives. yes we were the troopers on tv wearing the ranfurly draught boxes on our heads and yes i was the guy who almost ate gregors face. An fuck me we would never change a thing. Even tho we eventually comad in a local campervan park with ranfurly rd sign held tight in our grasps.

Then there was the parade.......we went simply stupid, banners "HARBOUR, HOME OF THE MIGHTY SHIELD" also "box of ranfurly $13, trip to the airport $9, 21 v 17, priceless" and "you cant win the shield on 30% possesion, yeah right" are just a few. we also thought it was only fair that at the browns bay transition of the parade we did a 6 gunner ranfurly draught shotgun solute for the boys as they paraded past. plus much much more.

BUT, the reason for this email is not for praise, fuck no, we'd do it again in a flash, but your help, we are trying to gather as many troopers as we can, only the die hards though, harbours finest. So please if you could just spread the word on ya site and get people excited, and we also think that u should make an appearance, its only fair, your a critic which is great but we would love to see you in the trenches so help us out....

Sam

Editor's note: We'll be there!

Subject: North Harbour Change of Name - New Player Trophy
Date: Mon, July 30, 2007 10:15 am

Hi ya,

Here at work we have a hard core or harbour fans. There are a couple of issue that have come up around Harbour Rugby that we feel need addressing.

These are
* The Name of our Flagship team
* Establishing of a new trophy which encompasses everything North Shore.

On the name, we think North Harbour is lame, and would like a survey put to the supporters on something that draws from the tradition of North Shore. We need to draw from local historical icons like, Frank from Castor Bay, the Mon desir and Uncles Takeaway Milford for a new identity. Along with this is a new more intimidating strip (lots of white does not instil fear).

A new player's trophy, we think a Frank from Castor Bay trophy should be established, this would be one of this trade mark cats eye shell bottles put on a stand, may be for Harbour Air NZ Cup player of the year.

Cheers
Harry

Subject: Where's the loyalty
Date: Thu, June 21, 2007 3:03 pm

I see with great disgust at what the new coach has done to this great beloved team of ours!!!

I have just read the Harbour team for 2007 and there are some notable absences!!!

Regan Tamehiri - A player with a lot of promise and delivered in crucial games (esspecially last year)

Roger Dustow - Always seemed to be overlooked by usless players but this time not even in the squad.. instead replaced by a loan player from Auckland. if recent form was to be judged he would have to be one of the form hookers in the (blues) franchise with 4 tries.

Adrian Donald - one of the stallwarts of the harbour front row and was part of the sheild winning team as was the other 2.

I thought the new coach would bring in some much needed fresh air but it seems like the attitude of harbour now is "thanks for your efforts in bringing home the shield boys...now piss off" and we wonder why so many of our top players look for other teams!!!

I have spoken to some of the players dropped and there are about 3-4 more, it seems like the new coach has forgotten what loyalty is all about and by bringing in all these uncapped players and throwing away our experienced players (even the in form ones) can only mean 1 thing... We won't be holding the shield for long and we might as well book our spot in the heartland cup next year!!!!

Jay

Subject: Harbour Song

Date: Tue, June 12, 2007 1:16 pm

To the Hampster, Mc Daddy and gang and fellow Harbour fans over land and sea,

For years of following my beloved Harbour I am quite disgusted that we as Harbour fans cant come up with a decent song about ourselves or in fact a song belittling our opposition , HAAAAAARBOUR IS PRETTY God damn lame if you ask me and we must kill the sad twat who came up with it back in the 1980's , So I have done a bit of homework on this matter my fellow harbourites , so I have enlisted a good mate of mine Fat Bastard (who is English by the way, hey I have forgiven him ok)I enticed him by offering a large quantity of pies and alcohol and 7 episodes of Coronation Street to help us in our endeavour to find a few chants to put us in the right direction. Fat Bastard obliged fourfold for us, as well a leaving a bloody big mess to clean up on my kitchen .

As you will notice we have not made a song about Our Brothers from the Northland or the Bay of Plenty, We are currently working 24/7 on a Wellington song ,perhaps one that mentions that Jerry Collins actually is a pint in Guinness in disguise, you know white on top and brown below, So fellow Harbourites if you have a good song share it

Sing to the tune of "Noel Noel"
And out of the shore
Came a golden bright star
Scoring tries like John Kirwan
From near and from far
And Harbour won
As we all knew they would
And the star of that great team was a man called Shelford
Shelford Shelford Shelford Shelford
Buck is the King of North Harbour

Sing to the tune of "Land of hope and glory":
We will follow the Harbour
Over land and sea
We will follow the Harbour onto Victory

Sing to the tune "Whole world in his hands":
We got the best team in the Land
We've got Billy Bowden as a Celeb fan
You know the one with the crooked hand
We got the best team in the Land

We had Buck and Frano in our team
Walter and Rushie, oh what a dream
Buncey's adultery made the mothers scream
We got the best team in the Land

We had Dowdy and Ronnie in the front row
Tuitavake, now watch him go
Villiami, he aint slow
We went down South
And took the Shield
We got the best team in the Land

We have Luke and Tony in the ABs
We paid for Tipoki to get a degree
He then sodded off to Canterbury
We got the best team in the Land

We got George, now he is class
We got Tusi with his Hospital pass
We've got a million fans and were all class
We got the best team in the Land

Sing to the tune from the English football classic "In Your Liverpool slums":
In Your Waikato farms
In Your Waikato farms
You bother the sheep when you hide in the grass
You'd rather shag cows than some young healthy lass
In your Waikato farms

You farm all the day
and you milk all the time
You bugger your livestock
And thinks that is fine
In your Waikato farms

You cover your sheep in a bit of sheep dip
Your sister's your wife
and she has a hair lip
In your Waikato farms

Sing to the tune of "We don't need no education"
Hey Farmers !!
Leave them sheep alone
All and all you're just another prick from the Waikato /Canterbury/Taranaki

Sing to the tune of "You are my sunshine":
You are Auckland
The scum of Auckland
You're only happy on dole day
Your mums out dealing
Your dads out stealing
Please just lock those scumbags away

Sing to the tune of "Jesus Christ Superstar":
D
an Carter,
Superstar
He wears Girls Knickers and a Bra

Cheers
Harbour Mick

Subject: Polly
Date: Mon, March 5, 2007 7:43 am

My thoughts on Polly - yes he was treated badly by his employer. he was the first coach to bring home anything of substance to the union. he brought us the Shield. the Shield, for god's sake! and you'd struggle to find a more loyal Harbour man than Polly. some of his comments in the media sound like they were said by a fan, that's how loyal to Harbour he was. it doesn't seem overly fair to reward our only trophy-winning coach by sacking him.

But, loyalty alone doesn't make someone a good coach. and while 2006 must go down as our best thus far simply because we won the Shield, losing by a record score to Otago in the QF was surely a poor finish, and something that wouldn't have happened for example to Auckland or Canterbury. i'll ignore the Waikato game because that was only 7 days after the Shield win, and no doubt only 2 days after they stopped drinking. but Otago? come on. obviously you can't put the blame entirely on the coach, but to lose by that sort of score to that sort of team has to come down to the preparation.

Wayne Pivac, on the other hand, obviously showed far less loyalty to the union (i mean how much more anti-Harbour can you get than coaching the scum?). but i think he'll bring some professionalism to the top team. and whilst i have a few negative things to say about professionalism in rugby, the fact is it's here to stay and the super unions have it, so if we don't we're not going to win a lot. so while i'm sad for Polly, i think the decision to appoint Pivac was the right one. and at least this way, Polly can be remembered for bringing us the Shield.

Cheers
Colin
