The Greatest XV

As we approach the milestone that is 20 years of not winning anything, I feel it is important to name the Greatest XV North Harbour has ever produced. Of course you might not agree but who cares, I certainly don't. This may change in the build-up to our 20th anniversary if I feel like it.

1. Ron Williams (Northcote)
Lucky to be an All Black but never really ever let the Union down. Unlike backs who we had a plethora of, props has always been a bit short in supply. I used to call him Uncle Ron, but not to his face.

2. Slade McFarland (ECB)
Been around longer than most of the Shore has been alive. Great servant to NZ rugby and had patches in his career of pure class.

3. Tony Woodcock (Marist)
Struggling for props, Dowd was unlucky to miss out but never mind. The props were chosen on name only, whether they play loose or tight is up to them.

4. Ian Jones (Kamo)
I don't like him much as I never thought he played with his heart for Harbour. I could be wrong. As one of the most prolific locks of the modern era sadly I have to put him in.

5. Troy Flavell (Massey)
Flav had class but also had a wee temper. Had he moved from Massey and come to a more civilised part of the Union perhaps we could have seen the best from this petty criminal. I love his socks and his ability to chase down and punish even the smallest indiscretion.

6. Kevin Schuler (Silverdale)
This guy was bloody brilliant and we never saw enough of him. Truly outstanding.

7. Liam Barry (ECB)
Good without being awesome. Solid performer for the Union and of course had his career screwed over by "Brewergate"

8. Wayne Shelford (North Shore)
The greatest player the Union will ever see full-stop.

9. Paul McGahan (North Shore)
Great pass but a little mad in the head. Good all-round performer and one that I have a bit of time for.

10. Frano Botica (North Shore)
The most talented player this Union has ever produced. He had everything. If it wasn't for Fox then he would have been an AB of the highest order.

11. Eric Rush (Takapuna)
Greatest Seven's player the world has ever seen and possibly one of the most gifted players in NZ Rugby. Started at flanker moved to wing, the rest is history.

12. Walter Little (Glenfield)
Runner-up to Frano as the most talented player. Got a bit of time for the wee fella.

13. Frank Bunce (Helensville)
An Auckland castaway who speared the backbone of Harbour's back 7 in the mid-nineties. Brilliant AB.

14. Rico Gear (Helensville)
In recent times Rico has been the standout player for moi. Really, really good player, step like a demon.

15. Glen Osborne (Takapuna)
Mad as a meat-axe but had the skills. Once sold insurance, now doesn't.

(In no order)
16. G. Dowd (Takapuna)
17. C. Jones (North Shore)
18. A Strachan (ECB)
19. N. Evans (ECB)
20. R. Kapa (Northcote) (Sentimental value only)
21. R. Cribb (Massey)
22. S. Pierce (North Shore)
