"This
season has been largely a disappointing one. The tag of entertainers
and non winners still hangs around our collective necks even and
we haven't done much entertaining. Some serious questions must be
pointed at the management and the players, who takes the greater
blame is up for grabs.
I believe that in the world of competitive sport it is the manager/coach
who must live and die by their results. On this basis Buck is surely
close to being dumped by the often ludicrous Harbour Rugby Management.
Buck and Mr. A Pollock have talked tough for two years and have
achieved little. Semi-final appearances are a creditable achievement
but we still lack game plans, tactics and players playing in correct
positions.
Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, however I feel the time has come to
employ a coach with little or no emotional attachment to Harbour,
someone who can give the union backbone and a desire to play collectively
for the good of the team.
Problems I wish to comment on are as follows:
1. Harbour Management (i.e. the Board):
Often maligned for poor management the "Harbour Hierarchy"
have done nothing to release themselves from this unfortunate public
perception. The public entrance to the club final was made eight
minutes before kick-off. Little or no incentives for the public
to attend games, running one gate against Southland on the Open
Stand side (200 or so people didn't make it in until half-time).
Sorry but what does Doug Rollerston get paid for????
2. Positions:
One thing that has fucked me off no end this season is the fact
that we started the season with no kicker, no fullback and no first-five
eighth. I mean even school teams know whose going to be kicking
the bloody ball. Our Samoan friend at number 15 has been woeful,
Marc Ellis has been average to middling and our kicking has been
so poor it can't be mentioned without me breaking down in tears.
3. Tactics:
The game plan if there ever was one seems to change 16 times
during the match, kick or run?, I don't know lets kick into touch
on the full, no lets drop the ball under our own posts, help....
Utter crap.
4. Substitutions:
Anyone who saw our game against Taranaki will be shocked have
seen how many times Cribb re-entered the field and how our front-row
which dominated, was systematically ripped apart in the second-half.
Someone help me to understand.
To sum up I'm not happy, but at the time of writing we still have
a slim chance of making the semis though I don't think we deserve
it much. I strongly think that if Buck is retained he will be damn
lucky and i hope if he is taken back its for the right reasons and
not some sentimental great player crap.
Note:
I fully respect Buck as a player and well done Walter on your
fantastic achievement, I love you."
