Had enough?
01 August 2011

The season is almost over, the number of games left that are winnable are reducing and Harbour continue to deliver the same old turd that has been served up for 3 or 4 years now.

Anyone had enough of the crowd that are running Harbour and feel now is time for a change? I know I do.

Let's be honest, so far we have managed to deliver f*ck all in 3 years other than abject performances and dwindling crowd support. The recruitment of players has been average at best and the union's meddlesome ways in the movement of players between clubs has brought a bitterness towards them that will be ingrained for a long time to come.

Harbour's Hollister is a laughing stock. The head of a business who cannot seem to keep his two cents worth out of rugby matters and concentrate on the the job he is tasked to do which is run the union. As the clubs lurch listlessly towards dwindling playing stocks at Premier, U21 & U19 levels North Harbour continue to trundle down the path of Community Rugby feeding our NPC team! Eh, can't we see the problems that lie ahead in this process??? There are not enough good plays in our dwindling number of clubs/players to produce a competitive team!!

The coaches are on a hiding to nothing, irrespective of whether you think they are the right ones or not. With no budget to deal with of any significance we are forced to pay the spoiled whinging McAlister $60k a year whilst player deals are offered in the back corridors of Harbour Stadium by guys who have no right to offer them (ain't that right BH - nudge nudge wink wink). The money would be better spent on holding on to or encouraging into our team good young or seasoned vets to Harbour who can offer something more than we are being served. We allow our talent to walk out to other unions on the basis that they are not a Botica, Whetton or Mayhew whilst these protected species are given game time and finances far above their station.

Leadership is something that does not come easy. It is something that means you will not always be liked for but will deliver respect. Consult people - Yes! Take opinions on board - Yes! but to make decisions for the greater good of the union, that takes leadership.

So the question must be raised. Is there anyone in the union who wants the job at the top of the pile? and are the clubs willing to get together and call time on the services of those who have delivered little in 3 or 4 years?

If yes, step up and nail your flag to the Harbour mast. It is going to be a tough job but the kind of job that will bring immense satisfaction if you get it right and produce a team that brings pride and devotion to those who support it. A team from the inner sanctum to the players on the field.

As we witnessed a thrilling encounter at Harbour stadium on Saturday where two teams tried their hardest to win their first championship in many years the day seemed half complete as the U85 kgs, U19's and U21 teams were not there to play on the day and stay and watch the best that club rugby has to offer in North Harbour. How can the union get a fundamental so wrong and be allowed to get away with it.

Have you had enough?

I think I have!
