Welcome to the new season folks.
It's the one where Harbour will start with a bang
against Otago and head into the next 50+ days of fixture chaos on
a merry go round of winning rugby!
Eh no! I think what we saw last night gave us that
horrible feeling in the pits of our stomach's that this could be
another long (short) season. Hell we hadn't even kicked a ball and
Harbour were in disarray with the Luke McAllister shambles. People
scrambling here and there trying to work out if he was going to
turn up and play this week or not. It was more reminiscent of an
U21's team selection at East Coast Bays than an NPC one. Still,
with that sitting to one side the team (on paper looked good) headed
off to the dirty south to take on Otago.
I can just hear Liam and Jeff going through their
pre-game checklist.
Scrums - check
Lineouts - check
Breakdown play - check
Attack - check
Defence - ch....
Ah, I see where there may have been an issue and yep
it was in defence.
46 points against Harbour in 80 mins of rugby is
hardly a good start for the defence guru. The fact that Harbour
had even managed to get within 12 points of Otago was a miracle
and to give the poor suffering Harbour fans a glimmer of hope that
a comeback was on was just cruel. The way the defence parted for
the tries that followed was embarrassing and the backs have to take
the brunt of the blame.
Still, it's only game one right? We can bounce back,
right? Lets hope so or once again it is going to be a short and
shitty season at Harbour. At least it's a condensed season, so while
the shit might stink more it shouldn't last as long! Lets see if
we can bounce back next week boys and bury this result in the pile
of Harbour forgettable's.
