Auckland Grammar vs. Kelston 1st XV "brawl"

There'll be a bit of shit in the media in the next couple of days about a fight at the end of the Auckland Grammar/Kelston semi. What was I doing there, you might well ask? Dunno. Woke up under a tree outside a house in Remmers with an empty schooner in my hand and dribble down my shirt.

Anyway, here's what I saw:Leading 15-9 with a couple to go, Grammar score the winner in the corner to take it to 20-9. There's been a bit of niggle during the game but mostly just talk, though one Grammar lad was binned (ten minutes in for a spear tackle) and one Kelston lad sent off (for killing the ball at rucks, having already been binned for it). The Kelston lad sees his side's season disappear - and the Grammar boy might've let him know about it while the two were on the ground over the line. The two sides end up having a bit of a set-to, but nothing special. Then, just as it begins to settle, 10-15 Kelston supporters run across the field to get stuck in to the Grammar players.

Now, I'm all for a fight, but when some cunts on the sideline start weighing in, I see red. Play the game and have a fight or stay the f**k out of it. Anyhoo, most of the crowd (on both sides) try to break it up. The people trying to stop the fight outnumber the fighters by about 10 to 1, it dies down, the Grammar lad misses the conversion, ref. calls it off a couple of minutes early (good decision), both sides shook hands and exchange extra special big man hugs five minutes later, and everyone f**ks off home - (except me, who went to Galbraith's for a soother) - to wait for the usual media cunts to start moaning about youth violence and the state of the nation.
