Mairangi Murray from the terraces!
The club season
starts in March this coming year and there is already confusion
at what the union are trying to achieve in 2009. Ok, it is great
that the North Harbour contracted players will be with their clubs
but does it mean that they will have to be played? Based on their
performances last season there will be many guys in their respective
clubs who will fancy a crack at the guys who are coming back into
the Premier teams and what happens if they do not start the Premier
team games? Do the union enforce a play these guys memorandum? and
do the union stick with the guys that they have currently on contract
or do they offer out even more contracts to guys who take their
chances and make the new coaches stand up and take notice?
With the new
coaching set up in place and messer's Dowd and Wilson keen to shine,
do we think we will see a team run out in 2009 that is drastically
different from 2008 and if not, can they turn the crop of 2008 into
top four contenders?
With the NZRU's
wisdom being thrust upon one and all and the cancellation of the
B's competition to help reduce costs will C&J (It's like a burger
at Burger Fuel or a sexy drink) think about letting the wider training
squad have a crack at each other in a Harbour training game to see
who should be offered a squad place and who should miss out?
Will they pick
players based on form and not reputation and most of all will they
create a team that is capable of producing the kind of rugby that
were the hall marks of their playing days?
Can C&J produce
a pack that is big strong and aggressive with a back line that is
looking to play expansive running rugby in the faces of the opposition?
So many questions,
not enough time to answer them all. It is with this that I leave
you a little rhyme.
It is with these
questions I leave you now,
For there is lifesaving to be done down Mairangi Beach Way!
Lets hope 09 is better than last,
And that C&J give our players a good blast,
With recession upon us and credit crunching away,
Lets hope to see our Harbour live to fight another day!
All the best
for 2009!
Mairangi Murray!
